Beneficiary Split Planner

Divide a payout fairly and check it totals 100%.

Educational estimate only, not insurance, financial or legal advice.

Why it matters

Policies with several beneficiaries need shares that sum to exactly 100 percent. This planner shows what each person would get and flags a bad total.

Using it

Type the payout and a percentage per person. Leave extra rows at zero. The top line says whether the split is valid.

Example

On a $500,000 policy, shares of 50, 25, 15 and 10 percent pay $250,000, $125,000, $75,000 and $50,000.

Smart habits

Name backups, avoid leaving money straight to a child, and update the form after weddings, births and divorces.

Note

This tool is for planning only. The official form goes to your insurer.

Common questions

Should I name my estate?

It can delay payment and expose funds to creditors, so many people name people instead.

What if my shares are off?

Insurers normally ask you to correct them.
